India’s Covid-19 tally has surged past 8.6 million with the number of confirmed cases soaring to 8,636,011 on Wednesday. However, the declining active cases and increasing recoveries from the disease continue to bind the nation’s hope.

According to figures released by the Union ministry of health and family welfare, the active cases stand at 494,657 while 8,013,783 have been discharged from hospitals or have recovered from the infection in home isolation.

Meanwhile in the US, the virus has claimed 239,598 lives with over one million new confirmed coronavirus cases in the first 10 days of November alone. The country’s cases tally stands at 10,238,965.

As the cases continue to be on the rise, the US government plans to begin vaccinating Americans in December if Pfizer Inc submits the positive initial data from its Covid-19 vaccine trial to health regulators as quickly as expected, health secretary Alex Azar said. Pfizer had earlier said that the vaccine it has been developing with German partner BioNTech SE was 90% effective against the disease, based on an early look at results from its large, late-stage trial.
