The total number of Coronavirus cases in India reached 8,313,876, with active cases at 5,33,787, down by 7,618 cases from the previous day, according to data released by the Union health ministry on Wednesday.

Following a volatile phase of campaigning and voting in the US elections, the United States hit a new record in the past 24 hours, by recording 99,660 coronavirus cases, according to a tally by John Hopkins University. So far, more than 9.4 million people have been infected and 233,000 people have lost their lives to coronavirus.

Odisha reports 1,385 new Covid-19 cases, 14 fresh fatalities

Odisha's Covid-19 tally mounted to 2,97,274 on Thursday as 1,385 more people tested positive for the infection, a health official said. As many as 798 new cases were reported in quarantine centres, while 587 fresh infections were detected during contact tracing, the official added.

Denmark culls minks after mutation spreads to humans

Denmark will cull its mink population of up to 17 million after a mutation of the coronavirus found in the animals spread to humans, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said on Wednesday. Reuters reported that the head of the WHO's emergencies programme, Mike Ryan, called for full-scale scientific investigations into the complex issue of humans - outside China - infecting mink which in turn transmitted the virus back to humans.

China partially closes borders, blocks travellers from coronavirus hit Britain

Mainland China has temporarily suspended entry of non-Chinese nationals residing in Britain, the Chinese Embassy in Britain announced on Wednesday. The rejection of non-Chinese travellers from Britain came as England entered a monthlong lockdown starting Thursday after new coronavirus cases exceeded 20,000 a day, and its Covid-19 death toll eclipsed all other countries in Europe.

Assam reports 380 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours

Assam reported 380 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 2,07,741, according to State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Assam currently has 8,110 active cases after a total of 1,98,694 people were discharged, added Sarma. The state has recorded 934 fatalities so far.
