India on Saturday reported 2,411 new cases and 71 deaths due to coronavirus, taking the total number of active cases to 26,535. So far 1,223 people in India have died due to the virus.

As a measure to control the spread of coronavirus outbreak in India, the Centre on Friday extended the nationwide lockdown by two more weeks. India has been under lockdown since March 24 due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The government has profiled the districts into red, green and orange zones to bring in some ease during restrictions. The Ministry of Home Affairs issued fresh guidelines as well in this regard to all the states and union territories permitting considerable relaxations in the districts falling in green zones.

Two BSF personnel on Saturday tested positive for novel coronavirus in Tripura, days after two COVID-19 patients in the state were cured of the disease, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said.

France extends health emergency till July 24

France on Saturday decided to extend a health emergency imposed to fight the new coronavirus for two months until July 24, Health Minister Olivier Veran said.

A proposal to be put to parliament on Monday said the lifting this month of the emergency, which began on March 24, would "be premature" and "could see a risk of the outbreak" intensifying.

We urge PM to lay exit plan from lockdown, says Congress

During a press conference on Saturday, Congress urged PM Modi to lay an exit plan for lockdown.

"We urge PM to lay exit plan from lockdown, spell out goalpost to deal with coronavirus, economy," Congress leader Randeep Surjewala said.

The Congress also said that migrants issue in the country post lockdown was not handled in compassionate manner.

"Migrant labour issue has not been handled in humane, compassionate manner. We urge upon PM to ferry migrant labourers to their home for free in sanitised trains, with food," reports PTI quoting Randeep Surjewala.
