Coronavirus in Europe has now found a new epicenter in the UK as the death rate crossed 40,000, making it the worst-hit nation in Europe. The US, Mexico, Brazil, Russia and India continue to see a large number of cases. India on the other hand has a lower mortality rate compared to these other nations. India has recorded 9,887 cases in the last 24 hours. The death toll has reached 6,642.

Rio De Janeiro's favelas cannot be raided amidst the pandemic, Judge Edson Fachin ruled. These favelas (slums or shantytowns in Brazilian cities) are often subjected to huge force from police as they are also havens of drug trade and other illegal activities and have often resulted in deaths of innocent minors.

Italy, which has halted sports events due to Covid-19, is all set to begin its football season starting June 12. The Italian football federation has agreed 5 substitutions per league for fixture congestion related issues.
Thailand, China report new infections
China reported 5 cases of Covid-19 of which 3 were asymptomatic, while Thailand reported two cases of Covid-19.

Germany's tally of Covid-19 cases reached 183,687 after it recorded 407 new cases in one day.

In a bid to improve standards of global health, the G20 nations have pledged $21 billion towards the fight to eradicate Covid-19.
