Highlights: Coronavirus cases cross 30,000-mark in Gujarat, 18 new deaths

With 1,297 new patients found, the coronavirus case tally in Mumbai rose to 72,287 on Friday and the death toll due to the pandemic reached 4,177 with 117 new fatalities, said the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

The number of recovered patients in the city reached 39,744 with 593 patients discharged from hospitals during the day.

The number of Covid-19 cases in Chhattisgarh increased to 2,545 after 89 more people, including seven Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, tested positive on Friday, a health official said.

With 580 new patients being detected since previous evening, the number of coronavirus cases in Gujarat crossed 30,000 on Friday, the health department said.

This is for the second time that a single-day highest increase of 580 was reported in the state.

The Covid-19 tally in Madhya Pradesh reached 12,798 on Friday after 203 people tested coronavirus positive, while three deaths in Indore and another one in Dhar took the toll to 546, an official said.

A total of 185 persons were discharged from hospitals post recovery during the day, taking the number of recovered patients to 9,804, leaving the state with 2,448 active cases.

A seven-month-old baby and a woman tested positive for coronavirus in Chandigarh on Friday, taking the Covid-19 tally to 425 in the Union Territory, a health bulletin said.

The child is related to a Covid-19 patient in sector 22, it said.

Delhi records 3,460 fresh coronavirus cases, taking tally to over 77,000; death toll mounts to 2,492.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said community transmission of the novel coronavirus had begun as Covid-19 cases were coming from all parts of the state.

A total of 44 cases were detected during the day, taking the Covid-19 count to 1,039, while the number of active cases was 667, a health official said.

"We will have to admit that community transmission has begun in the state. But the infection has been traced to some common sources," Sawant said.

Twelve more people 11 defence personnel and one policeman tested positive for Covid-19 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Friday, taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the union territory to 72, a senior official said.

The 11 defence personnel recently reached Port Blair from Nashik in Maharashtra.

Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia on Friday said schools in the national capital will remain closed till July 31 due to coronavirus pandemic.

The recovered cases have exceeded the active cases by 96,173. During the last 24 hours, a total of 13,940 Covid-19 patients have been cured, taking the cumulative figure to 2,85,636. This has led to the recovery rate touching 58.24 per cent: Govt of India

The World Health Organization-led coalition fighting the coronavirus needs $31.3 billion over the next 12 months to develop and roll out tests, treatments and vaccines, it said on Friday.

It said $3.4 billion had been contributed to date, leaving a funding gap of $27.9 billion, of which $13.7 billion was "urgently needed".
