Highlights: Maharashtra reports 4,841 Covid-19 cases today

Maharashtra on Thursday recorded its highest single-day spike with 4,841 new Covid-19 cases, taking the tally of total coronavirus infections in the state to 1,47,741--within touching distance of 1.5 lakh mark.

44 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Goa, taking the total number of cases in the state to 995. Two people have died while 355 have recovered from the infection so far, the state's health department said, reports ANI.

Eight personnel in escort, guard, telephone duty of Joint Police Commissioner, Law and Order, Lucknow tested positive for Covid-19 after which the officer went in home quarantine, reports PTI.

3,509 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Tamil Nadu, taking the total number of cases in the state to 70,977. The death toll stands at 911 while active cases have gone up to 30,064, the state's health department said, reports ANI.

Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said that the central government has rolled back its order mandating virus patients to visit Covid care centers for health assessment. Now medical teams will visit people at their home to assess whether they can stay in home isolation or need to be sent to hospital, reports ANI.

Andhra Pradesh recorded yet another new high on Thursday with 553 coronavirus cases being added in a single day, taking the aggregate to 10,884. Another seven patients succumbed to the pandemic in the last 24 hours, taking the overall toll to 136, the latest Covid-19 bulletin said, reports PTI.

Romania reported its highest number of daily Covid-19 infections in two months on Thursday, as it prepares to assess a new phase of relaxation next week. The government said Romania has recorded 25,286 cases of Covid-19 so far, of which about 18,000 patients recovered and 1,565 died. Over the past 24 hours it recorded 460 new cases, reports Reuters.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal launched a video call facility for Covid-19 patients admitted at the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) hospital so that they can talk to their loved ones. LNJP was declared a virus hospital on March 17 and since then, it has successfully treated 2,700 patients and sent them home.

As per official data, Uttar Pradesh's eight districts that are part of the Delhi-NCR region account for about one-third of the active Covid-19 cases in the state as well as deaths linked to the infection. Eight districts of UP -- Gautam Buddh Nagar, Ghaziabad, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat and Shamli districts -- are a part of the Delhi NCR, reports PTI.

The world health organization said that the novel coronavirus is resurging in Europe as restrictions related to the infection are being eased, reports AFP.

Rajasthan health minister Raghu Sharma said that over 18 lakh people were given an ayurvedic concoction as an immunity booster against Covid-19. The minister said that the process for the distribution of the concoction (kadha) is still on, reports PTI.

20 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Uttarakhand taking the total number of cases in the state to 2,642. The death toll stands at 35 whereas 1,745 have recovered from the infection so far, the state's health department said, reports PTI.

The Maharashtra Police said that 38 of its personnel tested positive for the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, reports ANI.

The Ministry of Health and Family welfare said that 13,012 Covid-19 patients have been cured in the last 24 hours, and the total number of those cured have reached 2,71,696 so far. The recovery rate stands at 57.43%, reports ANI.
