Highlights: 1,197 new coronavirus cases in Mumbai, 136 deaths

The Chhattisgarh government will try to provide employment to migrant labourers who have returned from other states due to the lockdown, in state-run power companies depending on their skills, a spokesperson said on Saturday.

As many as 30 tribals from Maharashtra's Palghar district will work in hospitals treating Covid-19 patients, an official said on Saturday.

At least 30 tribal volunteers, including six women, who are part of an NGO, have undergone basic training in nursing and will serve at different hospitals amid the pandemic, the official said.

During a meeting with Delhi disaster management authority officials on Saturday, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said that if the city adopts 5-day institutional quarantine for all Covid-19 patients, including asymptomatic and those with mild symptoms, there will be chaos.

“Currently, there are more than 10,000 people under home isolation and there are only 6,000 beds at quarantine centres, where will we accommodate all the people?” the chief minister said.

As Covid-19 cases continue to rise in Beijing, the city has widened checks to ensure early detection to prevent the virus from spreading. Officials in Beijing are carrying out nucleic acid tests on all food and parcel delivery personnel.

The Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra's Pune climbed to 14,292 with the district registering 542 more cases in the last 24 hours, an official was quoting as saying by news agency PTI. The death toll has gone up to 560.

Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) meeting on 5-day mandatory quarantine was inconclusive. Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia says they failed to reach an agreement. The officials will be meeting again at 5pm to reach a consensus.

At least 85 persons have tested positive for coronavirus in Maharashtra's Nagpur district in the last 24 hours, taking the tally in the region to 1,228, a district official said on Saturday.

Officials said China reported 34 new Covid-19 cases, including 22 in Beijing, where the health officials have submitted the virus genome sequence from the recent clusters of virus infections to the World Health Organisation. Out of the new infections, seven are asymptomatic, reports PTI.

179 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Odisha, taking total number of cases in the state to 4,856 out of which 1,543 are active cases. The state's death toll stands at 12, reports ANI.

An eight-year-old boy was among 10 new Covid-19 cases in Mizoram. The state's tally has gone up to 140, and of them 131 case are active.

AAP MLA Raghav Chadha on Saturday said that Delhi needed 90,000 beds by June 30 but now with the mandatory 5 days of institutional quarantine order, the city needs 90,000 beds.

"From where will we get 90,000 beds," he quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

He added, "people from my constituency have told me that they won't get themselves tested for fear of being whisked away to quarantine centres."

Police personnel in Punjab's Amritsar distributed face masks to people in Amritsar to spread awareness about Covid-19 pandemic as the state observes weekend lockdown.

Only shops of essential items are allowed to open on Saturdays and Sundays in the state.

Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain has been administered plasma therapy. He has no fever now, his health will be monitored at ICU over the next 24 hours, his office said on Saturday, according to news agency ANI.

The Rajasthan government has capped the rates of Covid-19 tests at ₹2,200 for private labs, against the fee of ₹3,500 to ₹4,500 which were earlier charged.

Chief minister Ashok Gehlot took the decision in a meeting held late on Friday night to review measures taken to fight Covid-19 in the state.
