The Covid-19 tally in India has crossed 3.95 lakh with maximum number of cases being reported from Maharashtra, followed by Tamil Nadu and Delhi. According to the Union health ministry’s dashboard on Saturday morning, the country witnessed a record spike of 14,516 fresh cases while the death toll mounted to 12,948.

Meanwhile, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has asked states to scale up Covid-19 testing capacity to enable early detection and containment of the infection.

On the global front, the number of people infected with coronavirus disease has gone up to 8,637,901, with the United States being the hardest hit with 2,219,119 cases, according to Johns Hopkins University’s tally. The global death toll has climbed over 4.59 lakh.

Tribals from Palghar to work at Covid-19 hospitals

As many as 30 tribals from Maharashtra's Palghar district will work in hospitals treating Covid-19 patients, an official said on Saturday.

At least 30 tribal volunteers, including six women, who are part of an NGO, have undergone basic training in nursing and will serve at different hospitals amid the pandemic, the official said.

'There will be chaos': Arvind Kejriwal

During a meeting with Delhi disaster management authority officials on Saturday, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said that if the city adopts 5-day institutional quarantine for all Covid-19 patients, including asymptomatic and those with mild symptoms, there will be chaos.

“Currently, there are more than 10,000 people under home isolation and there are only 6,000 beds at quarantine centres, where will we accommodate all the people?” the chief minister said.

Pune now has over 14,000 Covid-19 cases

The Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra's Pune climbed to 14,292 with the district registering 542 more cases in the last 24 hours, an official was quoting as saying by news agency PTI. The death toll has gone up to 560.

China reports 34 new Covid-19 cases

AAP MLA Raghav Chadha on Saturday said that Delhi needed 90,000 beds by June 30 but now with the mandatory 5 days of institutional quarantine order, the city needs 90,000 beds.

"From where will we get 90,000 beds," he quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

He added, "people from my constituency have told me that they won't get themselves tested for fear of being whisked away to quarantine centres."

Rajasthan govt caps Covid-19 testing charge at 2,200

The Rajasthan government has capped the rates of Covid-19 tests at 2,200 for private labs, against the fee of 3,500 to 4,500 which were earlier charged.

Chief minister Ashok Gehlot took the decision in a meeting held late on Friday night to review measures taken to fight Covid-19 in the state.
