Centre ferried 1.25 crore migrants back to their destinations: Amit Shah

Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Central government safely ferried 1.25 crore migrant workers back to their destinations after health infrastructure was ramped up to meet their needs, reports PTI.

Amit Shah took a dig at opposition leaders by saying that they dismissed the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to unite India in fight against the Coronavirus outbreak as political propaganda, but the nation followed the Prime Minister's appeal, reports PTI.

The UK government said Sunday it will reopen places of worship "for private individual prayer" on June 15 as it continues to progressively ease coronavirus restrictions. Prime Minister Boris Johnson's office said services and worship groups will still be banned for the time being due to concern that the virus spreads more quickly in enclosed spaces, reports AFP.

Portugal's tourism-dependent economy is expected to shrink by nearly 7% this year due to the effects of the coronavirus outbreak, the government said in its economic and financial stability programme, reports Reuters.

Indonesia on Sunday reported 672 new coronavirus infections, taking the total to 31,186, said a health ministry official. There were 50 new deaths, taking the total to 1,851, while 10,498 people have recovered, the official said, reports Reuters.

74 more people tested positive for coronavirus in the state of Chhattisgarh, taking the total number of cases in the state to 997, a health official said. The new cases also include a doctor from AIIMS Raipur, and two lab technicians, the official said, reports PTI.

Malaysians will be allowed to travel interstate, get their hair cut at salons and visit street markets starting from Wednesday. Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said more economic sectors will reopen, schools and religious activities will gradually resume, and people can travel for domestic holidays after nearly three months of lockdown, reports Reuters.

At least 15 more people tested positive for Coronavirus in Manipur, raising the total number of cases in the state to 172, officials said. Of the 15, eight have recently returned from Mumbai and seven from Delhi, a statement issued by the states Covid-19 Common Control Room said, reports PTI.

Russia reported 8,984 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours pushing the total number of infections to 467,673. Officials said 134 people had died during the same period, bringing the official nationwide death toll to 5,859, reports Reuters.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan ruled out the return to a strict lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus, saying the “elitist” idea would collapse the economy and increase poverty even as the confirmed cases in the country on Sunday inched closer to the 100,000-mark while the death toll rose to over 2,000, reports PTI.
