Brazil: Covid-19 cases surpass 1.5 million mark
The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases globally surpassed 11 million mark on Saturday as various countries recorded their highest 24 hours surge, including India, US, South Africa and Mexico. As per the latest figures by John Hopkins University, the infections tally reached 11,045,713, while the death toll was at 523,898.
In the United States, Covid-19 cases rose 2.1%, higher than the seven-day average, with more than 57,000 infections in 24 hours. The rising numbers have triggered authorities to to impose mandatory face masks rule and in some states, a curfew.
All of this comes as US entered somber Fourth of July weekend, US Independence Day. People are urged to celebrate their independence at home with their families.

Brazil the second most affected country from Covid-19 after the US, recorded 42,223 cases within 24-hours and surpassed 1.5 million mark.
Meanwhile, India which is at the fourth spot of the ten worst-affected countries on John Hopkins tally, recorded steepest single-day spike with 22,700 Covid-19 cases, pushing the tally to 648,315 on Saturday.
The southern state, Tamil Nadu became the second state in India to cross the grim milestone of a million cases, with a total of 102,721 people infected with Covid-19 disease.

DRDO to name its Covid hospital wards
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has decided to name different wards of new Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel COVID-19 Hospital in Delhi after the Indian Army troops who lost their lives in the Galwan valley clash last month.
63 news cases in South Korea
South Korea on Saturday confirmed another 63 new cases, news agency Bloomberg reported.
The figures announced by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Saturday brought national totals to 13,030 infections, including 283 deaths.
1,892 new Covid-19 cases, 8 deaths reported in Telangana
A total of 1,892 new Covid-19 cases has been reported in Telangana, taking the tally to 20,462 in the state on Friday.
The state has reported eight fatalities and 1,126 patients were discharged on Friday, as per the 9 pm bulletin issued by the state government, news agency ANI reported.
US records over 53,000 Covid-19 cases
The United States reported more than 53,000 new Covid-19 cases on Friday and several states set new records, according to a Reuters tally.
Alabama, Alaska, Idaho, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee all set single-day records for new cases on Friday, according to a Reuters tally.
Global coronavirus tally touches 11 million: Johns Hopkins University
The total number of coronavirus cases worldwide has touched 11 million, according to the latest data by the Johns Hopkins University on Saturday.
More than 523,613 people have died globally due to the infection, according to the data compiled by the university.
Brazil: Covid-19 cases surpass 1.5 million mark
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Brazil has increased within the past 24 hours by 42,223 to 1,539,081, the national Ministry of Health said.
The death toll has increased by 1,290 to 63,174 people within the same period of time.
Over 868,000 have recovered since the start of the outbreak, the ministry added.
A day earlier, Brazil registered 48,105 new coronavirus cases and 1,252 fatalities.
