The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases globally surpassed 11 million mark on Saturday as various countries recorded their highest 24 hours surge, including India, US, South Africa and Mexico. As per the latest figures by John Hopkins University, the infections tally reached 11,045,713, while the death toll was at 523,898.
In the United States, Covid-19 cases rose 2.1%, higher than the seven-day average, with more than 57,000 infections in 24 hours. The rising numbers have triggered authorities to to impose mandatory face masks rule and in some states, a curfew.
All of this comes as US entered somber Fourth of July weekend, US Independence Day. People are urged to celebrate their independence at home with their families.

Brazil the second most affected country from Covid-19 after the US, recorded 42,223 cases within 24-hours and surpassed 1.5 million mark.
Meanwhile, India which is at the fourth spot of the ten worst-affected countries on John Hopkins tally, recorded steepest single-day spike with 22,700 Covid-19 cases, pushing the tally to 648,315 on Saturday.
The southern state, Tamil Nadu became the second state in India to cross the grim milestone of a million cases, with a total of 102,721 people infected with Covid-19 disease.

Jama Masjid to reopen from today
After being closed for over two months, the Jama Masjid in Delhi will reopen for the public from today, Shahi Imam informed.
The mosque will remain open from 9 am to 10 pm while following social distancing norms for Covid-19.
Pakistan reports 3,387 new Covid-19 cases
Pakistan reported 3,387 new coronavirus cases and 68 deaths during the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in the country to 225,283 and the death toll to 4,619, according to official figures published by National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Saturday.
Most coronavirus cases have been reported from Sindh with 90,721 cases, followed by Punjab with 80,297 cases, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa 27,506 cases, Islamabad 13,292 cases, Balochistan 10,717 cases, Gilgit-Baltistan 1,536 cases and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir 1,214 cases.

Uttar Pradesh Rural Development Minister Rajendra Pratap Singh (Moti Singh) and his wife have been admitted to the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences here after they tested positive for Covid-19.
204 people test positive for Covid-19 in Rajasthan
As many as 204 people tested positive for Covid-19 in Rajasthan, while three others succumbed to the disease, state health department informed on Saturday.
A total of 19,256 have been reported in the state so far, as per the health department, which includes 3,461 active cases and 443 deaths.
Hot-spot Arizona reaches ICU capacity of 91%
Arizona has reached new peaks in hospitalisations and emergency room visits, indicating the state is only intensifying as a coronavirus hot spot.
State health officials say the capacity of hospital intensive care units is at an all-time high of 91 per cent.
The number of people hospitalised Thursday due to a suspected or confirmed case of Covid-19 was 3,013, according to the Arizona Department of Health Services. It's the first time reaching 3,000. (AP)
Mizoram postpones opening of schools for 2020-21 academic session
The Mizoram government has postponed the opening of schools for the 2020-21 academic session for an indefinite period as a part of the containment measures to curb the coronavirus outbreak, a minister said.
The government had earlier decided to open educational institutions for the current academic session from July 15.

So far, 11,300 'Make In India' ventilators have been dispatched to hospitals, out of which 6,154 have been delivered, health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said on Saturday.
Ministry of Health is also supplying 1.02 lakh oxygen cylinders across India of which 72,293 were delivered.

74-year-old woman dies of Covid-19 in Goa
A 74-year-old woman became the fifth person to lost her life due to the deadly Covid-19 in Goa, the state health department said on Saturday.
So far reported more than 1,500 people in the coastal state have tested positive for Covid-19.

WHO urges focus on first wave of coronavirus
Emphasising on the wearing face masks and social distancing, the World Health Organisation's emergencies chief said “we need to put up a fight now” during a peak in the current wave of the coronavirus pandemic, rather than focusing on when a second wave might come.
Dr. Michael Ryan said the world will be much better at fighting a second wave, if people can learn the lessons of fighting the first wave.
Dog in Georgia tests positive for virus that causes COVID-19
A dog in Georgia is believed to have been the second canine in the US to test positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19, health officials said.
The 6-year-old mixed breed dog was tested after its owners contracted Covid-19 and the dog began suffering from a neurological illness, the Georgia Department of Health said in a news release on Wednesday.
