With 49,931 fresh cases of Covid-19 recorded in 24 hours, India' tally went over 14 lakh on Monday. As many as 32,063 people have died of the infection in India, according to the health ministry dashboard on Sunday morning.

According to the government, India is conducting over 400,000 coronavirus tests every day. This increase in testing has come about due to the introduction of Rapid Antigen Tests. Though not as accurate as molecular tests, the results for antigen tests are available within an hour. These have also helped Covid-19 hotspot New Delhi scale up its testing rate.

Human clinical trial of Covid-19 vaccine ‘Covaxin’ begins in Odisha
The much-awaited human clinical trial of indigenously developed Covaxin, a possible vaccine against novel coronavirus, began at an institute here on Monday, a senior official said. The human trial of BBV152 COVID-19 vaccine or Covaxin commenced at the Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS) and SUM Hospital, one of the 12 centres selected by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) for conducting phase one and two of the process, the official at the facility said.

Cases continue to rise across the world’s fourth-most populous nation as testing remains sharply limited and businesses continue to reopen. The health ministry announced 1,525 more cases on Monday, bringing the country’s confirmed total to 100,303.

106,962 samples tested for Covid-19 on Sunday in Uttar Pradesh
Amit Mohan Prasad, the principal health secretary of Uttar Pradesh said that 106,962 samples were tested for Covid-19 on Sunday and that no other state has tested so many samples in one single day, reports ANI.

Shillong goes under 72-hour lockdown amid rise in Covid-19 cases
A 72-hour lockdown started in Meghalaya’s state capital Shillong from Monday amid rising cases of novel coronavirus in the state, officials said. Around 30 localities, mostly in the worst-hit East Khasi Hills district, have already been declared containment zones, they said, reports PTI.
