For the past few days, India has been registering a record number of infections per day due to the novel coronavirus infection. On Tuesday, the country saw a slight dip as 37,148 cases and 587 deaths were recorded as per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka still continue to remain severely hit from the pandemic. Maharashtra reported over 8,000 cases in the last 24 hours for fifth straight days with fears that community spread might have begun in the state. This was however denied by the state health minister Rajesh Tope.

Dr. Randeep Guleria, AIIMS director, said that certain areas of the national capital have hit their peak in cases. As per the Ministry of Health and Family welfare, over one lakh people have been cured/discharged in Delhi whereas 1,211 cases were recorded in the last 24 hours, being the lowest in over a month.

With countries joining efforts to develop a vaccine to combat Covid-19, the medical journal Lancet reported that an experimental vaccine developed at the University of Oxford is safe and has shown good immune response though it carries some minor side effects such as fever, muscle pain.
