India registered another highest ever single day spike of 34,956 Covid-19 cases, taking the total number of cases in the country over 1 million. The total deaths stand at 25,602. India for the past few days has been witnessing an upward trend in the number of cases recorded each day.

Several states have inducted a 7-10 day long lockdown with a view to check the spread of Covid-19. These new lockdowns are similar to the earlier ones where all movement is stopped and only essential services are allowed to operate. Karnataka, Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat continue to be worst hit from the pandemic. The total cases in Maharashtra have crossed 1.5 lakh and the death toll is nearing 11,000. Karnataka has now overtaken Delhi in the total number of active cases and its tally is set to cross 47,000. Meanwhile, the national capital Delhi's daily Covid-19 tally has been less than 2000 cases for straight six days.
