India, the third-worst hit nation by Covid-19 pandemic, registered nearly 29,000 cases and 500 deaths on Monday. As per the Ministry of Health and Family, India registered 24,498 cases and 553 deaths due to Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. States in the southern part of the country such as Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, recorded a sudden spike in the number of infections. Karnataka, which is under a fresh lockdown from July 14-July 22, has registered over 40,000 so far with the state health minister saying that the number of cases would double up in the next 15-30 days.
Delhi has been witnessing a steady rise in the recovery rate which is at 79.98%, better than the national average of 62.93%. On Monday, 1,246 cases were registered and nearly 1,400 people recovered from the infection in Delhi. Recent studies show that Bacillus Calmette–Guerin (BCG) vaccine that protects individuals against tuberculosis can also prevent severe infection and death from Covid-19.

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who has been at the centre of the controversy of mismanaging the pandemic and hiding requisite information from global governments, said that the infection would worsen as time passes. He went on to add that though most countries have brought their outbreaks under control, too many of them are headed in the 'wrong direction'.

Delhi HC, district courts functioning restricted till July 31
The Delhi High Court decided to restrict its functioning as well as that of the district courts in the national capital to urgent matters till July 31 in view of the coronavirus outbreak. Earlier, the high court had restricted its functioning and that of the district courts till July 15, reports PTI.

Puducherry registers 1,531 Covid-19 cases; 18 deaths
63 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Puducherry, taking the total number of cases in the union territory to over 1,500. There are 684 active cases and 829 have been discharged so far, reports ANI.

Nagaland's Covid-19 tally nearing 900-mark
S Pangnyu Phom, Nagaland health minister said that 33 new cases of Covid-19 were reported today, taking the total number of cases in the state to 878 which includes 538 active cases and 340 recoveries, reports ANI.

With 98 new cases, Rajasthan’s Covid-19 tally over 25,000
Rajasthan on Monday recorded 98 new cases and 3 deaths due to the novel coronavirus. The total number of cases in the state have reached 25,034 and the death toll stands at 521. More than 18,000 people have recovered from the infection so far, reports ANI.

India's recovery rate increased to 63.02%, says GoI
The Government of India said that the recovery rate among Covid-19 patients in the country has now reached 63.02%. The recoveries to death ratio stands at 96.01%:3.99%, reports ANI.

Japan traces new virus outbreak linked to theatre in Tokyo
Health officials in Tokyo appealed to all theatre goers to get tested for Covid-19 after a production starring boy band members was found to be the source of at least 20 cases. The Tokyo government said that it was focusing on a 190 seating capacity theatre in Shinjuku entertainment district where infections have also been traced to cabaret clubs, reports Reuters.
