Highlights: Florida records more than 12,600 new Covid-19 cases

As many as 1,654 coronavirus cases were reported in Uttar Pradesh within the last 24 hours on Monday. The latest detection of cases pushed the state's Covid tally past 38,000.

Meanwhile, 21 people succumbed to the disease.

Kerala's first Plasma Bank has been set up at the Government Medical College Hospital at nearby Manjeri, where two critically-ill Covid-19 patients have recovered after undergoing plasma therapy.

"The bank as of today has a storage of 25 plasma donated by volunteers and 200 are in the list who would donate as and when required," said Dr Shinaz Babu, Covid-19 District Coordinator, Malappuram.

Hong Kong reported another record high in Covid-19 infections on Monday as it detected 41 local cases, Bloomberg reported.

Of the 41 cases, 21 are related to previous clusters while 20 were of unknown origins, government officials said in a press briefing on Monday.

The consistently significant proportion of cases with unknown origins suggests that hidden chains of transmission have been circulating in the Asian financial hub for some time as the population returned to work and social activities were resumed.

Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan and his son, actor Abhishek Bachchan, who were admitted to a hospital here after testing positive for coronavirus, are "clinically stable", hospital sources said. Amitabh, 77, and Abhishek, 44, revealed their diagnosis on Twitter on July 11, saying they were in the isolation ward of Nanavati Hospital, reports PTI.

Russia, which is fourth-worst nation hit by the coronavirus pandemic registered 6,537 cases and 10 deaths in the last 24 hours. The total cases stand at 733,699 whereas the death toll has reached 11,439, reports Reuters.

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has planned to operate 800 buses from Bengaluru ahead of the seven day lockdown in the state. A new lockdown was declared from July 14-July 24 by the state government in order to curb the spread of Covid-19, reports ANI.

Pakistan’s number of coronavirus cases on Monday crossed the 250,000-mark after 2,769 new infections were detected in the last 24 hours, the health ministry said. According to the Ministry of National Health Services, 69 more persons died taking the death toll to 5,226. Another 1,837 patients were in critical condition, reports PTI.

Nagaland recorded its highest single day spike of 71 Covid-19 cases, taking the total number of cases in the state to 845, Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom said. He also mentioned out of the total cases, 518 are active cases and 327 have recovered from the infection so far, reports PTI.

Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike said that the Olympics must go ahead next year as a symbol of world unity in overcoming the coronavirus pandemic, even as the national capital witnesses constant rise in cases, reports Reuters.

Two United States marine bases in Japan's Okinawa have been put under lockdown after dozens of coronavirus cases were detected. There are tens of thousands of US servicemen stationed on the southern Japanese island, which has recorded around 150 civilian cases, reports AFP.

Jharkhand so far has registered 3,774 infections and 33 deaths due to the novel coronavirus. The active cases stand at 1,433 and 2,308 have been recovered/discharged, reports ANI.

The state of Rajasthan on Monday recorded 95 new cases and 4 deaths due the novel coronavirus. The total number of cases in the state have now gone up to 24,487 and the death toll stands 514. More than 18,000 have recovered from the infection so far, reports ANI.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned the union government's claims in battling the coronavirus pandemic by asking is India in a good position in the fight against the infection. In a tweet, Gandhi asked, "India at good position in COVID19 battle?".

616 more in Odisha people tested positive for Covid-19, taking the total number of cases in the state to 13,737. There are 4,896 active cases and 8,750 people have recovered from the infection so far, reports ANI.
