India in the past few days has been witnessing a daily highest-spike in coronavirus cases. As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India registered yet another single-day spike of 28,701 Covid-19 cases and 500 deaths. Recovery numbers have overtaken active cases, but India hasn't yet reached its peak, after which the cases would start depleting. The states of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Karnataka are worst-hit by the pandemic. Fresh lockdowns ranging from a week to a fortnight have been imposed in several parts of the country to curb and check the spread of the infection.

Multiple nations, including India are speeding up their research and development to come up with a vaccine that can provide absolute immunity against Covid-19 without any side effects. Last evening, Russia's Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University successfully completed the clinical trials on volunteers of the world's first vaccine.

1,654 fresh Covid-19 cases reported in UP; 21 dead


As many as 1,654 coronavirus cases were reported in Uttar Pradesh within the last 24 hours on Monday. The latest detection of cases pushed the state's Covid tally past 38,000.

Meanwhile, 21 people succumbed to the disease.

Kerala's first plasma bank set up at Manjeri

Kerala's first Plasma Bank has been set up at the Government Medical College Hospital at nearby Manjeri, where two critically-ill Covid-19 patients have recovered after undergoing plasma therapy.

"The bank as of today has a storage of 25 plasma donated by volunteers and 200 are in the list who would donate as and when required," said Dr Shinaz Babu, Covid-19 District Coordinator, Malappuram.

Hong Kong reports another record of 41 local cases as wave grows

Hong Kong reported another record high in Covid-19 infections on Monday as it detected 41 local cases, Bloomberg reported.

Of the 41 cases, 21 are related to previous clusters while 20 were of unknown origins, government officials said in a press briefing on Monday.

The consistently significant proportion of cases with unknown origins suggests that hidden chains of transmission have been circulating in the Asian financial hub for some time as the population returned to work and social activities were resumed.

Veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan and his son, actor Abhishek Bachchan, who were admitted to a hospital here after testing positive for coronavirus, are "clinically stable", hospital sources said. Amitabh, 77, and Abhishek, 44, revealed their diagnosis on Twitter on July 11, saying they were in the isolation ward of Nanavati Hospital, reports PTI.

Pakistan’s coronavirus cases cross 250,000-mark

Pakistan’s number of coronavirus cases on Monday crossed the 250,000-mark after 2,769 new infections were detected in the last 24 hours, the health ministry said. According to the Ministry of National Health Services, 69 more persons died taking the death toll to 5,226. Another 1,837 patients were in critical condition, reports PTI.
