In the biggest one day spike in coronavirus infections, United States recorded more than 47,000 cases on Tuesday, according to a Reuters tally.
California, Texas and Arizona have emerged as new US epicenters of the pandemic, reporting record increases in Covid-19 cases.
Infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci on Tuesday warned the authorities against the negligence in precautions saying that new coronavirus cases could more than double to 100,000 per day if authorities and the public fail to take steps to suppress the pandemic.
Meanwhile, India recorded highest number of fatalities in the last 24 hours with a jump of 507 deaths. The number of Covid-19 infection was pushed beyond 5.85 lakh after reports of 18,653 new cases, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The number of deaths in the country stood at 17,400.
The national capital remained in the list of the worst-affected state as it recorded 2,084 infections on Tuesday, taking the total tally to 85,161.
In the national capital, the Delhi Medical Council has collaborated with New Delhi district authorities to train community-based health care workers to fight against Covid-19.
In Maharashtra, the number of infections is at 77, 197.

The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Brazil has increased by 33,846 to 1,402,041 within the past 24 hours, a significant spike in new infections compared to the previous day, according to the Health Ministry data.

Japan: After pause of 4 months, Disneyland reopens in Tokyo
After being closed for nearly fourth months due to Covid-19 outbreak, the Disneyland in Japan's Tokyo reopened on Wednesday. However, guidelines regarding the restrictions were still imposed to prevent any possible infection.
No handshakes, hugging or photos are allowed with Mickey Mouse or any other character. Their signature parades and shows have also been suspended.
Puducherry: 30 new coronavirus cases, tally climbs to 739
Puducherry reported 30 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, pushing the tally of viral infections in the Union Territory to 739.
A medical bulletin issued by the Department of Health and Family Welfare said the total active cases were 426 spread over all the four regions of Puducherry (391 cases), Karaikal (25), Mahe (8 ) and Yanam (2). (PTI)

First Covid-19 case in asylum seeker camp at US-Mexico border
First confirmed case of Covid-19 was detected among migrants living in an asylum seeker camp at the US-Mexico border, AP reported.
Global Response Management said that one person in the Matamoros, Tamaulipas camp across the Rio Grande from Brownsville, Texas had tested positive.
