The number of infections due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) globally reached 87,941,154 with the United States still accounting for most of the case. The number of people succumbing to the disease was at 1,895,814.

As pandemic continued to worsen in the United States, it recorded its highest number of fatalities in a single after nearly 4,000 people died of the virus. This comes as experts have raised that Covid-19 deaths in the US are likely to maintain a near-record pace at least through January.
Meanwhile, Connecticut, Texas and Pennsylvania reported their first cases of the new virus variant that triggered a lockdown in the United Kingdom.
In UK, British medics will be able to give Covid-19 shots to hundreds of thousands of people every day by January 15, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said. Brazil surpassed 200,000 virus deaths, second only to the US, on a day when it reported the most infections of the pandemic.

Delhi airport mandates Covid-19 test, 7-day quarantine for UK passengers
Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has announced new rules for all passengers arriving from the United Kingdom, including mandatory RT-PCR Covid-19 testing and seven-day institutional quarantine.
The measures have been taken in the light of a new announcement from the Delhi government after flight services from the UK were resumed.

Rajasthan reports 471 new Covid-19 cases, tally reaches 3,12,091 cases
Rajasthan reported 471 new Covid-19 cases taking the overall tally in the state to 312,091 infections and 2,727 deaths, news agency ANI reported.
With 537 new recoveries, total recoveries reached 3,01,962 patients.
UK approves Moderna's Covid-19 vaccine
UK's medical regulator gave its nod to the Covid-19 vaccine manufactured by the US drug maker Moderna Inc. With vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech and AstraZeneca already being administered in the UK, Moderna became the third company to get approval.

Iran leader Khamenei bans imports of US, British Covid-19 vaccines
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei banned the government from importing new coronavirus vaccines from the United States and Britain. "Imports of US and British vaccines into the country are banned. I have told this to officials and I'm saying it publicly now," Khamenei said in live televised speech.
"If the Americans were able to produce a vaccine, they would not have such a coronavirus fiasco in their own country," he said.
