5,824 new cases push Mexico's Covid-19 tally to 585,738
India on Saturday logged its highest ever single-day spike of 76,472 Covid-19 cases and 1,021 deaths, pushing the country's tally to over 3.46 million. This is the third consecutive day where more than 75,000 cases have been registered. The total cases include 752,424 active cases, over 2.6 million recoveries and 62,550 deaths.
Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu continue to be worst affected by the pandemic. Maharashtra, which has the highest caseload in the country, has recorded over 718,000 cases out of which active cases are at 173,195 and the death toll has crossed 23,000.
Meanwhile, Delhi which has seen a sudden rise in single-day tally over the past few days will increase the working hours of its dispensaries and clinics by two hours so that more Covid-19 tests can be carried out, state health minister Satyendar Jain said. On an average, 18,361 samples have been tested for the infection in the national capital during last week.

China reports 9 new mainland coronavirus cases, all imported
China reported nine new confirmed cases of coronavirus on Friday, the same number as the previous day, with all of them travelling into the country from overseas, the national health authority said on Saturday, reports Reuters.
Peru extends Covid-19 state of emergency
Peru on Friday extended its national emergency until September 30 and prolonged a lockdown in some of the areas worst affected by the coronavirus, the government said. The South American nation has one of the worst death rates in the world from Covid-19 with 86 fatalities per 100,000 people, reports AFP.
