India on Friday registered yet another single-day spike of over 77,266 Covid-19 cases and 1,057 deaths which have taken the tally to over 3.39 million. The total cases include 742,023 active cases, over 2.5 million discharges and 61,529 deaths. India may overtake Brazil sometime in the next two weeks if the cases continue to grow at the same pace.

The Hawaii Tourism Authority says visitor arrivals to the islands in July fell by almost 98% when compared to the same month last year.

Puducherry reported 604 new Covid-19 cases and 9 deaths on Friday. Total number of cases now stands at 13,024, including 4,745 active cases, 8,080 recovered cases & 199 deaths till date, said UT Health Department.

Andaman & Nicobar reports 32 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total number of cases to 3,050 including 564 active cases, 42 deaths and 2,444 recoveries, said health department.
Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh quarantines himself
Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh has decided to go into 7-day self-quarantine, as per government protocol and the advice of his doctors, media advisor to Punjab Chief Minister said on Friday.
He was advised to quarantine himself after, two MLAs tested positive for Covid-19. Singh had met both MLAs in the Vidhan Sabha.

Covid-19 tally reaches 1,53,754 in West Bengal
The Covid-19 tally reached 1,53,754 in West Bengal on Friday after authorities registered as many as 2,982 new cases in the last 24 hours. The death toll increased to 3,073 after 56 fresh fatalities, state health department said.
14,361 new Covid-19 cases in Maharashtra
As many as 14,361 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Maharashtra, pushign the state tally to 7,47,995, state health department informed. The death toll reached 23,775 after recording 331 fresh fatalities.

H. Vasanthakumar, Congress MP from Kanyakumari, passed away on Friday. He was batteling Covid-19 and was admitted to the Apollo Hospitals on August 10.

Delhi on Friday reported 1,808 new cases of Covid-19 and 20 deaths, taking the total number of positive cases in the national capital to 1,69,412 including 1,51,473 recoveries, 13,550 active cases and 4,389 deaths, said health department.
Covid-19 tests for all MPs ahead of monsoon session: Lok Sabha Speaker
All lawmakers participating in the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament will have to undergo a Covid-19 test, said Speaker Om Birla at a preparatory meeting held on Friday.
The MPs will undergo RT-PCR tests, which involves taking a nasal/throat swab from a patient. It works by extracting ribonucleic acid or RNA, which is the genetic material of the virus.

Some members of IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings - including a current India limited-overs bowler and several members of its staff - have tested positive for the Covid-19, a report in PTI stated on Friday.
