The United States has confirmed more than 44,000 new cases of the coronavirus infection over the last 24 hours, according to data provided by the US-based Johns Hopkins University on Sunday. Nearly 1,000 Covid-19 patients have died over the same period, reports ANI.

As many as 3,274 people tested positive for Covid-19 in West Bengal, taking the total number of cases in the state to 1,38,870. The death toll due to the disease also rose to 2,794 with 57 more people succumbing to coronavirus infection, the state's health department bulletin showed, reports PTI.

Telangana reported 2,384 new coronavirus cases and 11 deaths, taking the state's tally to 1,04,249. "2,384 new Covid-19 cases, 1,851 recoveries and 11 deaths reported in Telangana yesterday, taking the total number of cases to 1,04,249 in the state. The total number of cases includes 22,908 active cases, 80,586 recoveries," the state health department said, reports ANI.

Telangana needs to increase Covid-19 tests, says union minister
Telangana needs to ramp up Covid-19 testing though the recovery rate in the state has improved, union minister G Kishan Reddy said on Sunday. The Centre has provided about 14 lakh N-95 masks, about 2,40,000 PPE kits and 1,400 ventilators, among others, to Telangana, he added, reports PTI.

German Labour Minister Hubertus Heil is seeking to extend by one year the period during which the state will pay short-time work allowances - a supplement for people put on reduced work hours - weekly newspaper Bild am Sonntag (BamS) reported on Sunday, reports Reuters.
