India on Sunday reported 54,735 cases, taking the country's Covid-19 tally to over 1.75 million and the death toll to 37,364. The country’s recovery rate stands at 65.44% as per the health ministry's dashboard. The ministry pointed out that India’s fatality rate which is at 2.13% at present, has been the lowest since the first lockdown which was imposed on March 24.

Maharashtra, Delhi and Tamil Nadu which were once seeing an upward trend in the infection tally have now seen a reduction in the number of cases registered per day.

States such as Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Bengal, Andhra Pradesh are emerging as the new coronavirus hotspots in India.

According to the Johns Hopkins University tracker, United States continues to remain the worst hit from the pandemic followed by Brazil. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organisation (WHO) at an emergency meet said that Covid-19 is a once-in-a-century health crisis, the effects of which will be felt for decades to come.

Plasma therapy for Covid-19 patients begins in Goa: Minister

The Goa government on Sunday said that plasma therapy treatment for critical patients of Covid-19 has begun in the state.

State Health Minister Vishwajit Rane made this announcement on Twitter.

"As committed to the people of Goa, we have started Plasma Therapy in the state for treatment of critical Covid-19 patients. Happy to announce that two patients have been successfully administered with Plasma under the compassionate use of Convalescent Plasma against #Covid-19," he said.

18 new Covid-19 cases in Meghalaya

Eighteen more people including a doctor tested positive for Covid-19 in Meghalaya on Sunday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 874, officials said.

A doctor at the Covid ward of the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) tested positive for coronavirus, the officials said.

Karnataka reports 5,532 new Covid-19 cases

A total of 5,532 new cases of Covid-19 and 84 deaths were reported in Karnataka in the last 24 hours, the state's health department informed on Sunday.

With this, the Karnataka's Covid-19 tally now stands at 1,34,819 positive cases, including 74,590 active cases and 57,725 discharges.

237 Covid-19 cases added in Surat, 207 recover

Surat in Gujarat reported237 new coronavirus positive cases on Sunday, which pushed the overall tally of the district to 14,162, the state health department said.

With the death of 12 patients, the highest for any district in the state on Sunday, the district's toll reached 621.

Two-day-old baby dies of Covid-19 in Tripura

A two-day-old baby has died due to Covid-19 in Tripura, becoming the state's youngest coronavirus fatality, a Health Department official said on Sunday.

The baby was born on Thursday at the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and her swab sample was collected as her mother was a coronavirus patient.
