Countries around the world raced to develop a vaccine for coronavirus (Covid-19) as the pandemic continues to rage. Worldwide there are at least 21.5 million coronavirus cases and over 765,000 confirmed deaths.
The United States remained the global epicentre of the virus, with around a quarter of the cases and deaths.
According to figures published on John Hopkins' website, Covid-19 fatalities surpassed 170,000 in the US while the number of cases are more than 5.4 million.

Brazil, second worst affected nation after the US, confirmed more than 23,000 new cases of infection in the last 24 hours. While the death toll increased by over 600 fatalities.
Meanwhile, India eyed global front runners including UK’s Oxford-AstraZeneca and United States’s Moderna-NIAID in Covid-19 vaccine plan for possible acquisition discussions.
India’s cumulative coronavirus disease cases crossed the 2.64 million mark on Monday and the death toll from the viral pandemic reached 50,921.

Covid-19 cases in Indore cross 10,000-mark
The total number of Covid-19 cases in Indore crossed the 10,000-mark as 245 more people tested positive for the disease in the Madhya Pradesh district in last 24 hours, an official said on Monday, reports PTI.
Out of the total 3,359 samples tested in the last 24 hours, 245 came out positive in-charge Chief Medical and Health Officer Poornima Gadaria said. With this, the total number of Covid-19 cases in the district has gone up to 10,049.

Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal has been discharged from AIIMS, hospital authorities were quoted as saying by ANI. The minister had tested positive for Covid-19 on 8th August.
Covid-19 cases doubled faster in Mumbai last week: BMC
The coronavirus cases doubled at a faster rate in Mumbai last week as compared to the previous week and the average growth rate of the viral infection also went up, according to the city civic body, BMC, reports PTI.
On August 8, the country's financial capital recorded the slowest doubling rate of 89 days and the lowest growth rate of 0.79 per cent. On Saturday, the rate of doubling became faster at 83 days and the average growth rate of Covid-19 cases rose to 0.84 per cent.
The average doubling rate in the city again slowed a bit on Sunday to 85 days and the growth rate decreased to 0.82 per cent, as per figures of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Plasma Bank starts functioning in Lucknow's KGMU
The "Plasma Bank" has started functioning from the King George's Medical University (KGMU) here, officials said on Monday, reports PTI.
The Plasma Bank is located inside the Centenary building of the KGMU. So far, 45 patients who have recovered from COVID-19 have donated their plasma to the bank, while plasma has been given to 25 patients.

Philippines records 3,314 new coronavirus cases, 18 deaths
The Philippines has recorded 3,314 new coronavirus cases and 18 additional deaths from the disease, the health ministry said on Monday, reports Reuters.
The country has so far registered a total of 164,474 infections and the death toll from Covid-19 has risen to 2,681, according to ministry data.
