DDMA issues instructions for Ganesh Chaturthi, Moharram
India added 374,608 cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and 5,594 deaths in a week, pushing its tally to over 2.58 million, data from the Union health ministry showed on Sunday.
There were 63,490 Covid-19 cases and 944 deaths between Saturday and Sunday morning as the country has reported more than 60,000 infections for the ninth time in 10 days, according to the health ministry’s dashboard.
However, with the number of cases and death toll rising with each passing day, India continues to be ranked third in the number of infections — only the US and Brazil have recorded more cases than India and have substantially higher death tolls from the viral illness.

Russia produced the first batch of its new vaccine for Covid-19, hours after the health ministry reported the start of manufacturing. Russia said that the vaccine will be rolled out by the end of this month.

Andhra Pradesh reports 8,012 new Covid-19 cases
As many as 8,012 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday. While the number of recovered people stood at 10,117. Eighty-eight others lost their lives to the viral disease, state health department informed on Sunday.
The total number of cases in the state now stands at 2,89,829, including 85,945 active cases.
Kerala reports 1,530 new Covid-19 cases in a day
As many as 1,530 new Covid-19 cases have been reported in Kerala in the last 24 hours. While ten others succumbed to the viral disease.
The number of active cases now at stands at 15,310, so far 28,878 patients have recovered, informed Kerala Chief Minister's Office.
Dharavi reports 5 new cases of Covid-19
Once the Covid-19 hotspot, Mumbai's Dharvi reported just five cases in the last 24 hours. The latest detection of the cases took total number to 2,668, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
652 new cases of Covid-19 infection in Delhi
Delhi reported 652 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The latest detection of cases took the infection tally to 152,580. While eight others succumbed to the disease.
More than 350 inmates test positive in Thiruvananthapuram jail
More than 350 inmates have tested positive for Covid-19 in Thiruvananthapuram central jail in the last one week.
One undertrial murder convict was the first to test positive for the virus in the prison at nearby Poojapura and in the last one week 359 more cases, including a staff. The prisoner succumbed to the disease this week.
As many as 145 cases were detected on Sunday alone, according to a report by PTI.
Himachal Pradesh reports 6 new Covid-19 cases
Himachal Pradesh on Sunday reported 6 new Covid-19 cases, taking the total number to 4,057. Total of 1,358 active cases, 2,640 recovered cases and 17 deaths have been reported in the state till date, informed state health department.
UP: Number of Covid-19 recoveries crosses 1 lakh-mark
The number of Covid-19 patients who have recovered from the disease crossed the one lakh-mark in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday.
The number of patients who have recovered from the disease now stands at 1,00,432 in Uttar Pradesh and the recovery rate is 65.03 per cent, Additional Chief Secretary, Medical and Health, Amit Mohan Prasad informed.
Lockdown to be lifted in stepwise manner: Maharashtra CM
Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray has said the process of lifting the lockdown in the state would be done in a stepwise manner.
The threat of Covid-19 still persists, Thackeray said adding that he does not want a second wave of the deadly viral infection in the state.
Mizoram reports highest single-day spike of Covid-19 cases
Mizoram reported its highest single-day spike of 64 Covid-19 cases on Sunday, pushing the tally to 777, an official said. The figure also includes 40 security personnel.
With just 4 in a day, China's local Covid-19 cases fall
The number of locally transmitted cases of Covid-19 dropped to four on Aug. 15 in China. All of these were reported in Xinjiang, according to the National Health Commission statement. That compares with eight cases nationwide a day earlier and is the lowest since July 16.
Israeli and UAE firms join forces in coronavirus research
Firms from the United Arab Emirates and Israel have signed an agreement to jointly develop research and studies on the novel coronavirus, the UAE's state WAM agency reported, according to news agency AFP.
The business deal comes days after a surprise political agreement between the UAE and Israel to normalise relations, a historic shift which will make the Gulf state only the third Arab country to establish full diplomatic ties with the Jewish state. The UAE's APEX National Investment and Israel's TeraGroup signed the "strategic commercial agreement" late Saturday in Abu Dhabi, WAM said in a statement.

New restrictions to stop the spread of the new coronavirus, including the closure of discos and a partial ban on smoking outdoors, went into effect Sunday in two Spanish regions, reports AFP.
The small, northern wine-growing region of La Rioja and the southeastern region of Murcia are the first Spanish regions to implement a raft of new measures which Spain's Health Minister Salvador Illa unveiled Friday to be enforced nationwide as the country battles a surge in the disease.

During Ganesh Chaturthi, no permission for setting up Lord Ganesha's idols in public places. No permission to be granted for procession during Moharram.
