Highlights: 12,614 new coronavirus cases in Maharashtra, 322 deaths

The Philippine health ministry on Saturday reported 4,351 new confirmed coronavirus cases and 159 additional fatalities, bringing the total in the country to 157,918 infections and 2,600 deaths, reports Reuters.

As many as 2,345 more people tested positive for Covid-19 in Indonesia on Saturday, taking the total number of cases in the country to 137,468. 50 more deaths have pushed the toll to 6,071, reports Reuters.

As France and Netherlands record large number of new cases, fears of a resurgence of Covid-19 has led to UK holidaymakers rushing home on Friday and Saturday to avoid self-isolation for 14 days. France have reported more than 2,500 new cases for the past three days.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that an India-made vaccine for the coronavirus disease, which has killed more than 48,000 people and affected over 2.4 million people in the country, will be out soon. In his Independence Day speech, PM Modi said that the government is waiting for a green signal from scientists.
