Arunachal’s Covid-19 tally rises to 2,327; 96 new cases reported
India on Wednesday recorded nearly 61,000 cases and 834 deaths due to Covid-19. The country's tally is over 2.3 million and the death toll stands at 46,091. The gap between recovered and active cases is more than 943,000.
Delhi, which has achieved a recovery rate of more than 90% recorded just over 1,200 Covid-19 cases and eight deaths on Tuesday. This was the first time in over two months that the number of deaths per day dropped below 10 in the national capital.
Bihar, which continues to remain one of the worst-affected states has registered more than 86,000 cases so far. The Centre has asked the state to ramp up its testing capacity. Private hospitals in Bihar are under the scanner for charging exorbitant charges for treating coronavirus patients.

New Zealand, after a period of more than 100 days reported locally transmitted infections. The island nation has put its largest city Auckland under lockdown. Auckland will move to level 3 on the country's coronavirus alert system while the rest of the regions will be placed under level 2 restrictions.

Uttar Pradesh reported 4,475 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours, while 54 more people died due to the infection.
Additional Chief Secretary (Medical and Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said the total number of cases in the state now stands at 1,36,238 and fatalities at 2,230.
Australia: Victoria state reports 21 deaths
The Australian state of Victoria on Wednesday reported a record 21 deaths due to Covid-19.
State Premier Daniel Andrews said 16 of the deaths were linked to aged-care facilities.

The United Arab Emirates lifted entry restrictions that required foreign residents who are overseas to seek approval before returning to the Gulf state.
The UAE in March suspended the entry of non-citizens as part of measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease.

Authorities in Brussels are introducing mandatory mask rules across the Belgian capital following a spike in cases.
Brussels Minister-President Rudi Vervoort’s office said Wednesday that the number of new infections in the city had reached Belgium’s red line of 50 per 100,000 inhabitants on average over the last seven days, AP reported.
At least 3 police personnel succumb to Covid-19 in Maharashtra
At least three Maharashtra police personnel died of Covid-19 and 294 tested positive for the deadly infection in the last 24 hours, an official said on Wednesday.
A total of 121 police personnel, including 11 officers, have succumbed to coronavirus infection in the state so far, reports PTI.

Russia's health minister Mikhail Murashko said that the first batch of the Russian vaccine against Covid-19 is expected to be released within two weeks. On Tuesday, the Russian Health Ministry registered the first coronavirus vaccine in the world, reports ANI.

Supreme Court considers starting few physical courts from next week
A Committee of seven judges, constituted by the Chief Justice of India, convened a meeting on Tuesday, and discussed several issues, including whether physical courts can start or not, the Supreme Court Advocates On Records Association (SCAORA) said. Physical court hearings have been halted in the Supreme court due to the pandemic, reports ANI.
