Steps are being taken to launch plasma therapy in Andhra Pradesh's Srikakulam district to treat coronavirus patients, district collector J Nivas said on Saturday.

"Steps are being taken to launch plasma therapy in the district. Plasma can be collected from cured patients after 28 days of recovery from COVID-19 and used in treatment," Nivas told reporters.

Singapore has reported 132 new Covid-19 cases, including six imported ones in the last 24 hours, taking the country’s caseload to 54,929, the health ministry said on Saturday, reports PTI.

The vast majority of the new infections are work permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.

The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Russia has increased by 5,212 to 882,347 in the last 24 hours, according to coronavirus response center.

Seventeen more people including three BSF personnel have tested positive for Covid-19 in Meghalaya, taking the state's tally to 1,023, an official said on Saturday, news agency PTI reported.

The fresh cases have pushed the total number of active cases to 594, the official said.

The Philippines' health ministry on Saturday reported 4,226 new coronavirus infections and 41 additional deaths, reports Reuters. In a bulletin, the ministry said total confirmed infections have risen to 126,885 while deaths have reached 2,209, with bulk of cases and casualties reported in the capital.

Arunachal Pradesh's coronavirus tally crossed the 2,000-mark on Saturday as 101 more people, including 46 security personnel, tested positive for the disease, a Health Department official said, reports PTI.

With the fresh infections, the total number of cases rose to 2,049, State Surveillance Officer Dr L Jampa said.

The Tamil Nadu government on Saturday announced that small temples with an annual income below ₹10,000, mosques, dargah, churches and other religious places in the corporation areas will be opened for worship from August 10, reports PTI.

Also, driving schools across the state shall function from August 10 adhering to the standard operating procedures (SOP) to be released by the government.

Maharashtra Police reported 187 new Covid-19 cases and two deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total count to 10,614, according to ANI.

With two more fatalities, the total deaths in the state police force reached 114. Out of the total number of police personnel infected with coronavirus, 8,604 have recovered and 1,896 cases are active, informed the Maharashtra Police on Saturday.

The Covid-19 toll in Puducherry mounted to 80 with five more people, including two women, succumbing to the viral infection on Saturday, reports PTI.

The union territory also recorded 268 new cases, highest so far, taking the tally to 5,087.
