The number of coronavirus infections across the globe is headed towards 19.5 million with increasing case tallies and deaths. US continues to struggle to curb the outbreak as states like Texas and Arizona struggle to curb deaths as well as infections. US epidemiologist and NIAIDS chief Fauci remains cautiously optimistic that a vaccine for Covid-19 will be developed shortly.

India has ramped up its efforts to develop a vaccine and has developed an inter ministerial team to stay on the forefront of the vaccine race. Chennai and New Delhi have seen a dip in cases.

Odisha's Covid-19 tally crosses 44,000-mark

Odisha's Covid-19 tally crossed the 44,000-mark on Saturday with 1,643 fresh infection and the toll increased to 259 as the recovery figure surpassed 30,000, a health department official said. Twelve persons succumbed to the contagion during the day to take the toll to 259, the official said, reports PTI.

A total of 259 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Goa on Saturday taking the state's count of coronavirus cases to 8,206. Goa Health Department said the total count includes 2,332 active cases and 72 deaths, reports ANI.

Bihar Covid-19 tally crosses 75k, death toll reaches 419

Bihar was jolted by close to 4,000 fresh Covid cases on Saturday which caused its tally to shoot past 75,000 on a day when the state also conducted a record number of tests and reported 19 casualties. According to the state health departments bulletin, the number of fresh cases was 3996 which left the tally climbing to 75,786 while the death toll stood at 419, reports PTI.

Tripura’s Covid-19 tally nearing 6,000-mark

One more person succumbed to Covid-19 in Tripura taking the death toll due to the disease to 37 during the last 24 hours, a government bulletin said on Saturday. They said that 128 fresh cases were also detected during the period pushing the states coronavirus caseload to 5,853, reports PTI.

Anddhra reports over 10,000 new cases, 97 deaths

With 10,080 new Covid-19 cases reported in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, the state's tally has risen to 217, 040. Ninety seven deaths were also reported during the day, taking the toll to 1,939. Uttarakhand imposes 200- 500 fine for not wearing mask in public places

The Uttarakhand government on Saturday announced that it will impose a fine of 200- 500 on people who do not wear face masks in public places.

Issuing the order while reviewing the Covid situation in the state, chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat said first time offenders should be fined 200 and second time offenders 500. The government will also provide four washable masks to violators of the Covid guidelines, he said.: PTI
