The Covid-19 outbreak continues to be in the grim condition as it raged across the world. The United States remained the worst affected country as it recorded at least 62,500 new Covid-19 cases on Friday in a record daily increase for the third consecutive day.

Brazil registered 45,048 additional cases of the novel coronavirus over the last 24 hours taking its tally to 1,800,827. While in Japan, the threat of second wave of Covid-19 loomed as Tokyo detected 243 new cases of the coronavirus, surpassing 200 for a second day in a row and setting a new record.

While countries continue to brave the unprecedented virus outbreak, World Health Organisation headed for China to organise an investigation into the origins of Covid-19.

UK PM to tell firms to order staff back to workplaces: Report

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will tell employers next week to start ordering staff back into their places of work, as long as it is safe to do so, in order to stem the coronavirus hit to the economy, Reuters reported quoting local media.

Johnson has told top civil servants to set an example by starting to return staff to their desks and he has also asked companies including Goldman Sachs to get more employees back after working from home.

206 new cases of Covid-19 in Tokyo

Tokyo officials confirmed 206 new coronavirus infections on Saturday, public broadcaster NHK reported.

The total marks the third straight day of more than 200 cases and follows a record high of 243 new cases reported on Friday. Coronavirus cases have surged particularly in Tokyo's Kabukicho red-light district.

At least 20 new cases of Covid-19 in Hong Kong: Report

Hong Kong confirmed at least 20 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, the South China Morning Post reported, citing a medical source.

In response to the recent surge in Covid infections, the government reintroduced social restrictions over the weekend.

Under the restrictions, restaurant capacity dine-in capacity is set at 60% and only eight people will be allowed per table.

The rules will be in place for two weeks, unless extended.

Germany's confirmed coronavirus cases rise by 378 to 198,556


The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany increased by 378 to 198,556, data from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) for infectious diseases showed on Saturday.

The reported death toll rose by six to 9,060, the tally showed.

Complete lockdown in J&K's Rajouri

A complete lockdown was imposed in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Saturday in view of the ramping contact tracing to prevent the Covid-19 spread in the area.

Eradication of new coronavirus is unlikely: WHO

It is unlikely that the new Covid-19 could be eradicated, World Health Organisation's head for emergencies programme said on Saturday.

"In the current situation it is unlikely we can eradicate this virus," Dr Mike Ryan, said during online briefing from Geneva.

He said that, by extinguishing clusters of infection, the world could "potentially avoid the worst of having second peaks and having to move backwards in terms of lockdown".
