Priyanka Gandhi joins citizenship protesters at India Gate

All entry and exit gates of Jaffrabad and Maujpur-Babarpur are open.

"As many as 36 injured protesters came for treatment. One protester has got his leg injured, would be shifted in ward," Dr Kishore Singh, Medical Superintendent, Lok Nayak Hospital, Delhi Gate, told ANI.

Protesters gathered at Jama Masjid chant slogans challenging police, shout "andar aao".

Delhi police issued a statement on today's protests : "Today afternoon, a large crowd gathered in the area of Jama Masjid for prayers. After prayers, they wanted to proceed towards Jantar Mantar, but the senior officers present at the spot persuaded them not to march towards Jantar Mantar.

In the evening, suddenly some anti-social elements in the gathering started breaking the barricades and indulged in stone-pelting in a bid to march towards Jantar Mantar against the police advice. Police used water cannon and absolutely minimum force to push them back.

While protesters were being pushed back, a private car parked at Subhash Marg, Darya Ganj was set ablaze. The police staff immediately doused the fire.\Some police personnel incl senior officers were injured in stone-pelting. Around 40 persons have been detained." : ANI

At Daryaganj police station, groups of lawyers and social workers have gathered. According to the lawyers, those detained inside the police station called them. However, the police says no detention has been made and is not letting anyone enter the station premises.

Police are waiting outside Jama Masjid to arrest Bhim Army Chief Chandrashekhar Azad, who is present inside the mosque.

"Citizenship Act and NRC are against the poor. The poor they will be most affected by it. What will the daily wage labourers do?; Demonstrations should be held peacefully," said Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra during a protest at Delhi's India Gate.

Islamabad police chowk and bikes were torched in Meerut. Police fired tear gas shells and opened fire to control the protesting mob.

Entry and exit gates at all stations, except Jama Masjid, Jaffrabad and Maujpur-Babarpur have been opened, tweeted DMRC.

According to media reports, Malaysia's PM has yet again remarked on matter that is entirely internal to India. Citizenship Amendment Act provides for citizenship through naturalization to be fast-tracked for non-citizens who are persecuted minorities from three countries, MEA tweeted.

Two more people have died in Meerut, taking the toll to three in the city. Earlier, one person was reported dead in Ferozabad. The death toll in UP has gone up to 4.

All entry and exit gates of Kashmere Gate are now open and entry is permitted at Rajiv Chowk metro station.
