India face Bangladesh in the first of the two Tests at Indore.

09:47 AM IST

Bangladesh off the mark

First runs for Bangladesh in the 20th ball of the match. Imrul Kayel is off the mark on his 8th ball. Bangladesh 1/0 after 3.2 overs.

Back to back maidens

Ishant and Umesh start with maidens. Umesh looked the sharpest in the training sessions and he has continued to be impressive. On the money from ball 1, he pushed Kayes on to the backfoot with some genuine pace and then got him to play a loose drive off the final ball. He will be a big big threat.

09:42 AM IST

Early troubles for Ishant and India

Umpire Marais Erasmus is already interested in Ishant's follow through, he has asked him to move away from the danger area. Ishant is forced to change angles.

09:42 AM IST

Ishant with the first over

Ishant Sharma will start the proceedings for India with the new ball. He will be up against Imrul Kayes.

Decent crowd

There is a decent crowd, although nowhere as full, but Indore loves its cricket, and this is not a bad start to be honest. Remember, this game comes immediately after Kohli vouched for 5 permanent Test centres in India, so this is a Test for Indore, the Test centre as well, says Manish.

Stat attack

0: Bangladesh have never won a test match against India.

77.78%: India have won 7 out of 9 (77.78 %-win rate) test matches played against Bangladesh and 2 have ended up as draw

50: Mushfiqur Rahim (337) needs 50 runs to become the leading Bangladesh run scorer against India in test.

Mohammad Ashraful is the leading Bangladesh runs scorer in tests against India with 386 runs.

25: Ajinkya Rahane needs 25 runs to complete 4000 runs in his test career, he will be 16th IND to reach this landmark.

34: Ajinkya Rahane needs 34 runs to complete 3000 runs batting at number 5 position for India in tests.

If he does so he would become 3rd batsman to complete 3000 runs batting at no. 5 for India in tests after M Azharuddin (4346) and S Ganguly (3440)

3: Wriddhiman Saha needs 3 dismissals to complete 100 wicketkeeping dismissals in tests. He would become the 5th Indian wicketkeeper to complete 100 dismissals in Tests.

Momminul on captaincy debut

It's a bit hard and it might break in fourth innings. It's a great honour to captain Bangladesh. Only few guys get this opportunity. We have seven batters and four bowlers.

Team news

Ishant Sharma is back in the Indian side. He replaces Shahbaz Nadeem, who is obviously not a part of this Test squad.

India (Playing XI): Mayank Agarwal, Rohit Sharma, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli(c), Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, Wriddhiman Saha(w), Ravichandran Ashwin, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma.

Bangladesh (Playing XI): Imrul Kayes, Shadman Islam, Mohammad Mithun, Mominul Haque(c), Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah, Liton Das(w), Mehedy Hasan, Taijul Islam, Abu Jayed, Ebadat Hossain

Kohli at the toss

"It has a bit of grass on it and historically Indore on day 1 has been bit spicy plus we are playing three seamers. We wanted to bowl first but we also want batsmen to bat in tough conditions. It's ideal for our seamers who are in top form. I think, from day 2 onwards it will be a beautiful track to bat on."

09:01 AM IST

Toss update

Bangladesh captain Mominul Haque has won the toss and he had no hesitation in opting to bat first.

What's in it for Bangladesh?

Bangladesh are missing their two premier cricketers Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal for different reasons but that didn't stop them from beating India for the first time in T20Is at New Delhi about 10 days ago and there is no reason why they cannot do that in the Test series. But things might be bit more difficult in the longest format, especially considering India's staggering record at home.

Pant to take the keeping gloves?

Interesting development at Indore. Our correspondent Manish says there's no sign of Wriddhiman Saha in the warm-up sessions yet and it is Rishabh Pant who has the keeping gloves on.

09:01 AM IST

Three seamers likely

Ishant, Shami and Umesh are marking their run ups, says Manish. This gives a clear indication that are likely to field three frontline seamers. Kuldeep to miss out again? Looks like it.

09:01 AM IST

A green pitch?

Pitch is generating a lot of interest. Ashwin, Jadeja and Pant huddled near the surface, says Manish.

09:01 AM IST

Three seamers or three spinners?

The five bowlers on display are Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav... Ishant joins them a bit late, says our correspondent Manish K Pathak from Indore.
