Bihar poll updates: Why give chance to a CM who didn't give jobs, asks Tejashwi
In recent days, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Chirag Paswan has repeatedly criticised CM Nitish Kumar, while expressing admiration for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Though Paswan’s LJP is a part of the NDA, which is in power in the state as well as the Centre, it will contest the polls independently.

Monday is the last day of campaigning for the first phase of the Bihar assembly elections. The Bihar polls will kick off with the first phase of polling on October 28, followed by two more phases, on November 3 and November 7. Counting of votes and declaration of results, meanwhile, is scheduled to take place on November 10. The ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), comprising, among others, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal(United), is up against the opposition ‘Mahagathbandhan,’ comprising the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Congress and Left parties.
Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi entered the poll fray on Friday, addressing their first rallies in Bihar. Chief minister and JD(U) president Nitish Kumar is the NDA’s chief ministerial face and is looking for another five year term, having already been in office for 15 years. Mahagathbandhan, meanwhile, has fielded RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav as its candidate for the state’s top post. In the last assembly polls, in 2015, arch-rivals JD(U) and RJD had contested together, with the RJD emerging as the single-largest party and Kumar becoming the chief minister. The alliance, however, collapsed in July 2017, paving way for the BJP to join hands with Kumar and form government in the state.
