Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the schedule for Bihar Assembly polls 2020 on Friday. The voting to elect a fresh 243-member assembly is likely to take place in mid-October.
In response to political parties' demand that elections be postponed in view of coronavirus pandemic, the EC issued a set of guidelines to be followed throughout the process.
Social distancing will be strictly adhered to and everyone will have to wear masks at polling booths. Those with high temperature will have to vote in the last one hour of the polling process and that there will be fewer voters at a booth, the EC's guidelines stated.

Amid the prevailing Covid-19 situation in the country, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut asked if it was appropriate to conduct assembly elections in Bihar.
Talking to reporters, Raut said the pandemic has given rise to an "unprecedented" situation. "Is coronavirus pandemic over now? Is the situation right for elections?" he asked.

Bihar assembly elections voting on Oct 28, Nov 3, Nov 7; results on Nov 10
Bihar assembly elections voting will take place on October 28, November 3, and November 7. The results will be announced on November 10.
Phase 1 will have 71 seats, Phase 2 will have 94 seats and Phase 3 will have 78 seats

"Over 7 lakh hand sanitiser units, about 46 lakh masks, 6 lakh PPE kits, 6.7 lakh units of faces-shields, 23 lakh (pairs of) hand gloves arranged. For voters specifically, 7.2 crore single-use hand gloves arranged," said Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora
Need to find balance between democratic rights, health: CEC
"As days and months passed Covid-19 showed no signs of abetting, it was realised that some way would have to be found to balance the democratic rights of the electorate while also making sincere and systematic efforts to protect health and safety of people," said CEC Sunil Arora.
