The global number of Covid-19 cases rose to 18,187,396 on Monday with the US accounting for the majority of cases. The number of people succumbing to the disease spiked to 691,642.
On Monday, the US saw a spike of 46,321 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking its total to 4,711,323.
Meanwhile, Spain started witnessing a second wave. Spain’s seven-day average of daily new cases (according to the New York Times database; all the seven-day average are from it) as on August 2, was around 2,300. It was around 700 on July 15 and nearly 370 on July 1.

Uttarakhand on Tuesday reported five more deaths due to Covid-19 and 208 fresh cases.
The death toll due to the disease has mounted to 95, while the caseload has reached 8,008, a state health department bulletin said.
